Concrete Polishing is a multi-step process where a concrete floor is mechanically ground, honed and polished with bonded abrasives in order to polish and smooth a concrete floor's surface. It is refined with each step to achieve a specified sheen/reflectivity. Penetrating sealers can be applied to polished concrete to increase stain resistance. POLISHED CONCRETE IS THE MOST ABRASIVE RESISTANT CONCRETE FLOORING OPTION.
SEALED CONCRETE
Topical Concrete Sealers will make your concrete more resistant to weather exposure, water, grease and oil stains. This barrier not only protects , but in most cases will also help enhance the appearance of your concrete. Concrete Sealers decrease maintenance and prolong lifespan. In order for a sealer to work as designed it must be applied properly. Each step, from surface preparation to application methods will impact the final outcome. Not all sealers are created equal, EPOXIES, URETHANES, ACRYLICS, both water based and solvent based all have a specific place in the market. Let us help you decide which concrete sealer is best suited for your project.
Many projects call for "sealed concrete" but there is no specification for product. In most cases this is where a Sealer called a "cure and seal" or a "densifier" will be used.
These products penetrate the slab to strengthen the surface for added abrasive resistance and dustproofing. This is by far the most economical solution for " sealing concrete"
Ashford Formula, Diamond Hard, and WR Meadows are among the most popular formulations. Houston's George R Bown Convention Center is a prime example of the benifits of densification.
STAIN VS. DYE
ACID STAIN
- Both Polished and Sealed concrete can be stained or dyed.
- Acid Stain on both Polished Concrete and Sealed Concrete is always transparent. You will see all of the natural character in the concrete. While it may help conceal some imperfections, STAIN DOES NOT COVER IMPERFECTIONS
- Acid Stain renders more marbled effects because it relies on a chemical reaction. higher concentrations of stain from sprayer application result in a variety of tones. Darker and lighter colors can be layered.
- All Acid Stains are earth tones, There is NO GRAY ACID STAIN. if you want a gray floor you may have to go with a Concrete Dye
- Acid stain can etch the surface of a Polished concrete floor and dull the appearance by creating micro -pitting. If applying a sealer, this will not be an issue.
